Climate change
Climate Change is the greatest environmental challenge facing the world today, as increasing amounts of carbon emissions in the atmosphere are contributing towards an unprecedented rise in average global temperature.
Increasing temperatures will bring changes in weather patterns, rising sea levels and increased frequency and intensity of extreme weather.
UK is the first country to set a legally binding targets: Green house gas emission reductions through action in the UK and abroad of at least 80% by 2050, and reductions in CO2 emissions of at least 26% by 2020, against a 1990 baseline. Climate Change Act, Energy Act and Planning Act all passed Royal Assent in 2008.
The UK has made significant progress in reducing its greenhouse gas emissions, which will continue to fall in future years, demonstrating that it is possible to move to a lower carbon economy while maintaining economic growth and competitiveness.
Climate Change Section in British Embassy, Seoul is working together with Korean society to promote a low carbon, high growth global economy. Climate Change Section is willing to help South Korea take economic and foreign policy decisions that more effectively address the negative impacts of climate change on global security and prosperity.
