What is the Embassy's Climate Change Section doing?
Climate Change Section in British Embassy, Seoul is working together with Korean society to promote a low carbon, high growth global economy. Climate Change Section is willing to help South Korea take economic and foreign policy decisions that more effectively address the negative impacts of climate change on global security and prosperity.
Objectives of the section include:
- To promote a visible and accelerated shift in investment in the Korean economy towards low carbon
- Creating the political conditions for Korea to support an equitable post-2012 agreement at the UNFCCC COP in Copenhagen in December 2009 of sufficient ambition to avoid dangerous climate change
- Encouraging Korean opinion leaders (in particular journalists and academics) to acknowledge a stable climate as a pre-condition for prosperity
- To help consumers understand the impacts and urgency of climate change and change their behaviour accordingly
