General Sir Timothy Granville-Chapman pays his repects at the War Memorial of Korea in Seoul

Vice Chief of Defence Staff visits Korea

The Vice Chief of Defence Staff, General Sir Timothy Granville-Chapman GBE KCB ADC Gen visited Korea between 25 - 28th March.  One of five senior 4 Star Generals responsible for running the United Kingdom's Ministry of Defence, General Sir Timothy visited Korea in order to reaffirm the close bi-lateral ties that exist between the militaries of our two countries, as well as to discuss various national and regional security issues.

During his busy visit programme, the General spent time with the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, General Gen Kim, Tae Young who is a fellow alumni of the United Kingdom's Royal College of Defence Studies, as well the Assistant Minister of National Defence, Mr Jeon, Jei-Guk.   Calls were also paid on members of the Defence Committee of the National Assembly as well as the United States Forces in Korea.

In addition to travelling to the Joint Security Area at Panmunjom (location of the recent General Officer Talks with the DPRK), General Sir Timothy also visited the National Cemetery and National War Memorial in order to pay his respects to those Korean and British Servicemen who fell in the defence of freedom during the Korean War.  General Sir Timothy, who last visited Korea over ten years ago, went on to visit China before returning to the United Kingdom.
